FAQs

WHY BALI?

Why not?! This lush island paradise is a well-known haven for spiritual and physical wellbeing, from the people to the plants, the volcanoes to the beaches. Its diverse landscape and culture is an inspiration to all those who visit – its incredible presence lingers on the mind, body, and soul – and left an unforgettable mark on our founder, who wanted to encapsulate as much of this essence as possible when creating our products.

IS BALI BALM MADE IN BALI?

Our original formulations were initially developed and produced in Bali using local experts, but in order to fulfill our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint, production was shifted closer to our largest customer base in the USA.

I AM HAVING TROUBLE SQUEEZING OUT THE BALM?

If the tube feels firm (may happen in cold environments), simply massage the tube, with cap on, between your fingers to soften the natural waxes & butters for a flowing, optimum application.

IS IT CORRECT THAT YOU USE A CHEF TO DEVELOP YOUR FLAVORS? HOW DO YOU DEVELOP YOUR FLAVORS?

Yes, each Bali Balm flavor was created with a professional chef. Chefs are renowned for their finely-honed sense of smell and taste, so we approached a professional chef to help us create our flavor pairings. That’s why you’ll find each tube offers a sophisticated, yet playful mix of complementing aromas and tastes.

WHY DON’T YOU USE BEESWAX?

All Bali Balm products are vegan, cruelty-free and 100% beeswax-free! No animal products or animal-derived products (such as beeswax, honey or lanolin) are used in Bali Balm products. Environmental issues are foremost on people’s minds, and by using ingredients not tested on animals or produced by animals, we can ensure that the production of our balm doesn’t negatively affect our fellow creatures, especially bees, which are crucial to our planet’s ecosystem. Even domesticated hives, used for honey and wax production, can wreak havoc on wild bee populations by competing for nectar and pollen.

SOMETIMES MY BALM FEELS A LITTLE GRAINY? IS THIS AN ISSUE?

Don't worry - due to the high level of natural plant wax used in our balms, the formula can occasionally harden a little when subjected to changes in temperature or weather. If this happens, we recommend simply holding the tube under a warm tap for a couple of minutes, to soften and smooth, for a flawless delivery.

IS BALI BALM DERMATOLOGICALLY TESTED?

Yes, all Bali Balm products have been tested by our team to ensure they meet the standards set by certified dermatologists and pharmacists. We never test on animals.

DOES BALI BALM CONTAIN AN SPF?

In short, officially no. Each of our formulas contains a blend of powerhouse natural ingredients, with numerous studies detailing the protection factor of natural oils, specifically coconut oil, which is a key ingredient in our balms. Ultimately, we leave the decision to our customers to decide on Mother Nature’s ability to create a natural SPF.

WHERE CAN I OBTAIN A FULL LIST OF INGREDIENTS?

Each Bali Balm product is labeled with a detailed ingredient list. You can also find full ingredient lists on the individual product pages on the website.

DOES BALI BALM CONTAIN CARCINOGENIC SUBSTANCES SUCH AS MOSH (mineral oil saturated hydrocarbons) OR MOAH (mineral oil aromatic hydrocarbons)?

No. Bali Balm products contain absolutely no mineral oils such as MOSH or MOAH. Moreover, we ensure our ingredients are minimally processed (although minimum FDA requirements may mean some industry standard synthetics are needed to pass approval) so as not to fundamentally alter the product.

YOUR PRODUCT CONTAINS AN INGREDIENT CALLED KUKUI NUT OIL, COULD YOU CONFIRM WHAT THIS IS AND WHETHER SOMEBODY WITH A NUT ALLERGY WILL BE AFFECTED?

Kukui nut is also known as candlenut or kemiri, and it comes from a flowering tree that was originally domesticated in Southeast Asia. Kukui nut oil is derived from the seed. This rich oil is said to be incredibly beneficial for the skin because it is high in fatty acids including omega-3, as well as vitamins A, C, and E. Studies show that kukui nut oil is extremely low in proteins that are responsible for nut allergies. That being said, anyone with nut allergies should consult a physician or conduct a patch test before using products that contain kukui nut oil.

HOW DO WE WORK WITH YOU AS PART OF YOUR KISS THE PLANET PLEDGE?

We are always looking for new, innovative ideas to help enforce our Kiss the Planet pledge. If you or your organization would like to work with us, please contact info@balibalm.com for more information.

HOW ARE YOUR PRODUCTS BIODEGRADABLE?

As part of our eco-initiative, Kiss The Planet, we explore all parts of the supply chain and look at how we can use the best and kindest ingredients, from our inner product formulations to our outer packaging. It was through our search for sustainable tubes that we discovered EcoPure® and knew right away this was the perfect technology for our brand and products. While our tubes are 100% recyclable, we wanted to make sure that even if they were accidentally discarded, they would be able to degrade naturally.

WHAT IS ECOPURE?

EcoPure® is the latest in eco-conscious, sustainable packaging technology. It is an organic additive, made up of natural microorganisms, that forms a coating – a biofilm – on top of plastics, allowing them to break down naturally, in both landfill and marine environments.

HOW/WHERE DO YOU PLANT TREES?

We work with the One Tree Planted initiative, a not-for-profit organization that reforests areas across the planet that need them most. They help recover areas affected by devastating wildfires and deforestation, improving forest health by planting young, well-placed trees which in turn help to restore wildlife habitats. For every transaction of two or more balms, we will plant a tree in Indonesia. It’s that simple.
